All I want for Halloween is an exchange student (or two)!

Well, we can make your dreams come true!  Whether you are ready to host right now or would like to host for 2nd semester only, have we got a student for YOU!

We only have three (3) Second Semester students left (all girls) - and they are in great demand.  Call me today if you are interested in hosting any of the following students.

First, we have a girl from Austria (home of the Sound of Music) who LOVES little children and is a vegetarian.  She plays the piano and recorder and is currently learning to play the violin.  She also likes to swim, ski, and ride horses.  Her native language is German, but she has also studied French and scored high on her English  SLEP test.

We also have a high-school Freshman from Germany who likes to read, dance, and spend time with friends.  She plays a new European sport called Parcour and she has received an award as a school paramedic - offering first response to classmates as needed. Biking, hiking, and geocaching are also among her interests.  In Athens, we have plenty of opportunities for all of these activities! She is highly allergic to smoke and pet dander, so a home that is smoke and pet-free would be ideal for this second-semester student.  She also had an incredibly high score on her SLEP test.

Finally - we have a Sophomore from Bavaria (Southern Germany) who loves to bake and cook recipes her grandmother handed down to her from her ancestors.  She also enjoys tennis, snowboarding and traveling.  Seems all our 2nd-semester girls scored highly on the SLEP tests!  When asked if she was afraid of pets, she replied only snakes and large spiders.  Should we tell her now we call that nature around here? And finally, she likes to be creative with her hands, whether sewing clothes or designing a new handbag,  she likes to keep busy coming up with new arts & crafts projects.

We also seeking a family to host a boy from Hong Kong and a boy from South Korea.  Both are currently enrolled in Cedar Shoals High School and would like to remain locally if possible.  One is involved in the Drama Scene at CSHS and will be performing in their upcoming presentations in November.  The other enjoys basketball, music, and studying at 2 Story after school with friends he's made at Cedar.

If you are interested in hosting any of these kids please call today so we can discuss the hosting details, and I can answer any questions you may have.  Once we've begun the host family application process, I can share the students' names, photos, and bios with you.

What's more American than Apple Pie?

Here's a unique opportunity to taste-test the Host Family Experience!
You can help a young girl's dream of experiencing life in the USA come true.  We are looking for a loving family to open their heart and home for just 4 weeks.  You'll be amazed at how quickly you bond with your student and see them become the part of your family you never knew you missed.

Your student is from Saxony (Georgia's sister region in Germany) and she'll be arriving on September 28th and departing again on October 28th. The plan is to allow her to shadow in a local high school.

Saxony is a great place to taste-test some of Germany's most famous specialities; bread, potato pancakes, pretzels, cheese, wine, beer, schnitzel, apple tarts and more.

But even more importantly... you'll have the opportunity to make a life-long connection with someone who truly wants to get to know you and the American way of life!

If you are interested in hosting please give me a call.  We are looking to place this student (get all the paperwork done) this week, but she will not arrive until 9/28.  If that's too quick for you, but you're still interested, let me know, and we'll talk about hosting a 2nd semester student or a student for the 2013-2014 academic school year. (We already have a boy from Copenhagen, Denmark who would like to  be hosted in Athens, GA for next year.)

Just a funny story - we had a mid-year get together last school year and asked all the families to bring a covered dish.  Additionally, we asked the students to bring their favorite dish from their home country. The German girl brought an apple pie.  We laughed and told her that there's "nothing more American than apple pie!".  But when we thought about it, we realized the American Indians didn't make apple pie - and it had to come from somewhere...  After all, isn't one kind of apple pie called "Pennsylvania Dutch"?  They weren't really Dutch (Netherlands) they were German and spoke Deutsch... So we immediately had something in common... our respective countries' national dessert - Apple Pie.
And hosting is just that - easy as Apple Pie.  Try it.... you'll like it!

Remember, these students compete academically for a spot on their country's exchange program, they come with their own accident and health insurance and spending money.  Your investment is 3 meals a day, a bed to sleep in, and your open heart to accept them into your home as a member of your family.
It is an experience that will change your life forever!
